He found that this demographic was spending more money on”extras” like gourmet coffee, organic meals, and Uber rides to their everyday destinations. He also discovered that they are less likely to be brand-loyal if it meant saving money in some manner.
Therefore, Drop was born. The app doesn’t care that card you use, and it pits merchants against one another to supply you with the very best offers. I will cover this in more detail at the review below, but let’s first dig into why this app makes so much sense.

1. Download the Drop app

Drop operates by lining up purchases you make in your card with supplies you have connected to about the Drop app. It is a gorgeous thing because you don’t have to be concerned about rewards cards or even logging in anywhere. You simply connect your card and go about your business whilst Drop earns you points in your background.
3. Select your favorite brands
After you’ve connected a card, you will be prompted to select five of your favorite brands. These are usually more notable brands, like Wal-Mart, Starbucks, Trader Joe’s,
Uber, Target, and other places that people have a tendency to spend a lot of money.
The main thing to note here is you cannot change these once you select them, so select wisely. I suggest picking brands or businesses that you store with the maximum.
Keep in mind, you are going to get new offers all the time, but they may not be for places you shop frequently. So take this opportunity to choose your favorites.
4. Choose a Couple of bonus offers (if you want to)
Since you’ve linked your card and picked up your top five brands, you’ll be prompted to register for a few bonus offers. - Dunkin Donuts (14 points per $1 invested )
- Target (8 points per $1 invested )
- Starbucks (12 points per $1 spent)
This probably gives you a sense of the type of person I am. Food and coffee are vital to me. After that, I had been asked to link to Facebook and share the app with a couple of friends. I politely declined.
I did this all while in line at a Starbucks, even if you can consider that. So I was eager to see what could happen when I used my card for the first time. I pulled up to the window, given the wonderful woman my credit card, got my coffee, and took my card back. Immediately after leaving the line, I opened up my Drop app and…nothing.
I don’t know why I was anticipating some explosion of fireworks on my phone, but I had been. In a more anti-climatic manner, a notification popped up in my phone the next day telling me points were earned. Hurray.
It ends up I hit up Target and Starbucks more than I need to, because the points stored coming in. Waiting for the initial 5,000 points is fun–it does keep you engaged with using the app.
My Big Reward
Then my big moment arrived. A 20,000 point, one-time purchase offer from the online bulk superstore Boxed.
This is the point where the whole brand-loyalty item comes in to play. Never had I considered using Boxed. I knew it existed but consistently preferred to go to my local Costco for items like paper towels, toilet paper, and diapers for the toddler. But I saw that 20,000 bonus staring directly at me, so I chose to purchase all of these items through Boxed. They now had a new client, and that I was (or so I thought) well on my way to $20 in gift cards.
That is where I’ve been experiencing an issue. Just over three months have passed since I placed my order at Boxed.com and Drop has finally deposited the points right into my account. After I stopped worrying about it, I forgot that I was even waiting, so it was a nice surprise to receive 20,000 points (aka $20 in gift cards) deposited. I think that the lesson here is really for big bonuses, expect to wait a couple of weeks, whereas it is possible to expect regular supply points to show up inside a day or 2.
Drop likes to maintain these big bonuses pending for a couple of weeks (undetermined), so you as the consumer have enough time to make returns or exchanges.
They do not want to shell out points in case you’re going to get your money back from the merchant. This isn’t a deal-breaker for me. But it is a bit frustrating to wait upwards of a month to receive my points in some cases.

The short answer is yes. When Drop initially launched back in early 2017, they had some substantial issues with their customer experience. Customers were complaining about how points were allocated and how they can use them. Luckily they have worked out the majority of the problems, and the app is a cinch to use.
My only gripes so far are the pending points and absence of responsive customer service. Being that it does not cost anything, though (and there are no advertisements ), I guess I could live with it.
